Italian tennis player and top world ranked Jannik Sinner made a critical decision ahead of the most challenging Slam of his career by firing his physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi and his athletic trainer Umberto Ferrara, according to la Repubblica.
Sinner made the tough decision as he aims to build a better atmosphere around the right team of people, and following the decline of the respective relationships with Naldi and Ferrara in the fallout of the Clostebol case.
The official departure has been brewing for some time, as Naldi has not been seen in the Skinner’s box since Halle, while Ferrara hasn’t been present on Skinner’s team since Wimbledon.
Skinner was acquitted in the Itia trial but the case found that Ferrara had purchased Trofodermin, which is an OTC drug in Italy, for his physiotherapist colleague, who used it for a hand injury. Ferrara then massaged and treated Sinner’s muscles, contaminating him.
